Shatter* is one of the elite modern arcade games that not only lives up to its retro inspiration (Breakout), but takes its classic gameplay to a higher level

Thumping retro-electronica reverberates as the ball ricochets through neon landscapes. The vacuum-type power you wield influences the direction of your ball and sends it hurtling towards explosive cartridges, or bouncing between far-off targets in an otherwise inaccessible alleyway.

Points run into the millions as you collect powerups and “shards.” You begin to employ advanced tactics, activating your shield at just the right time or unleashing a devastating Shard Storm to end things in brilliant slow-motion.

Maybe you’ll recruit a friend, enlisting them in a never-ending war against thousands of bricks just waiting to be shattered.

Then, you come to a boss fight…

Shatter Shot #5 from Steam Store Page

At first, the bosses provide a nice break in the action as they easily fall before you. Soon, they grow more difficult to defeat. Your heart pounds as you try one more time…One more time…One more time… You consider giving up.

After a long and frustrating battle, you advance and a new mode is unlocked-Endless.

You leap into the action because you don’t want it to stop.

Conclusion:

Shatter takes an established mechanic (brick breaking) and turns it into a hyperkinetic, neon-fueled spectacle. Aside from a few immersion-breaking boss fights, this race to the top of the leaderboard is relentless.

Potential Concerns:

None to my knowledge.
