Citizens of Earth

Citizens of Earth by Christian developer Ryan Vandendyck and Eden Industries is a clever JRPG in the style of Earthbound that shows anyone can be a hero–from a barista to a used car salesman!

Normal Price: $14.99 USD

Dropsy

Despite a few potential concerns (detailed in the video and an upcoming article), Dropsy is the Video Games and the Bible Game of the Year for 2015.

Christian developer Jay Tholen uses misunderstood clown Dropsy to create a title focused purely on loving and helping others in an open world. While not holding a specific Christian focus, its emphasis on wholeheartedly serving Dropsy’s community embodies Christ’s love better than any game I’ve played before, or since.

It also might have inspired a slight obsession on my part:

*Full disclosure: Jay is a good friend I may work with on future projects.

Normal Price: $9.99 USD
Discounted Price: $4.99 USD (50% off)

Robot Roller-Derby Disco Dodgeball

Robot Roller-Derby Disco Dodgeball is a non-violent shooter that matches the likes of Quake and Unreal Tournament with an excess of style, speed, and continually-updated content.

Normal Price: $14.99 USD
Discounted Price: $4.94 USD (67% off)

David.

David. by Christian developer Andrew Armstrong was the first title I found to adapt Biblical concepts into exciting, meaningful gameplay.

Normal Price: $1.99 USD
Discounted Price: $0.65 USD (67% off)

FRACT OSC

Music-themed open-world puzzler FRACT OSC sticks in my memory as one of the most cohesive, mentally satisfying, and incredible gaming experiences I’ve ever had.

Normal Price: $14.99 USD
Discounted Price: $3.74 USD (75% off)

Valkyria Chronicles

Valkyria Chronicles is a breath of fresh air as far as JRPGs go. It forgoes magic in favor of a world akin to that of WWII Europe, and rarely oversexualizes its extensive cast of female characters (a huge contrast to typical anime-styled games). The unique tactical combat and wide range of activities/customization mean that after almost 20 hours, I still feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface of this wonderful game.

There are several potential concerns, depending on your perspective (scattered profanity, LGBT characters, a religion in the game centered on an ancient race of powerful humans known as the Valkyrur…). However, considering the relative severity of these factors and other titles in the genre, I personally recommend it highly.

Normal Price: $19.99 USD
Discounted Price: $6.79 USD (66% off)

NEON STRUCT

After trying Christian developer David Pittman‘s Eldritch (a title not promoted on this site due to elements from the Lovecraftian mythos), I realized why I wasn’t enjoying NEON STRUCT at first. I was trying to play it like any ordinary stealth game–hide in dark areas, move cautiously when enemies aren’t looking, etc.

However, tools including invisibility stims and a slide-dash make NEON STRUCT a joy to play even when all hell is breaking loose. In this game, being discovered isn’t the end of a perfect run–it’s an opportunity to use a whole other bag of tricks.

*Full disclosure: David is a good friend I may work with on a paid basis on future projects.

Normal Price: $17.99 USD
Discounted Price: $9.89 USD (45% off)

Mount & Blade: Warband

In our review of Mount & Blade: Warband I said it was one of the first RPGs “I can play as a Christian without a serious weight on my conscience.” It was my Game of the Year for 2014, and remains one of the most expansive, community-supported RPGs of all time.

Don’t like the medieval theme? Within a few clicks, you can download user-made modifications that turn Warband into a simulation of Feudal Japan, Middle-Earth, or ancient Britannia.

Normal Price: $19.99 USD
Discounted Price: $4.99 USD (75% off)

Nancy Drew: Alibi in Ashes

Nancy Drew Alibi in Ashes Logo from Official Her Interactive site

For newcomers to the long-running Nancy Drew adventure game franchise, Alibi in Ashes remains a perfect introduction to its world and one of the best titles  in the series.

Normal Price: $6.99 USD
Discounted Price: $3.49 USD (50% off)

The Marvellous Miss Take

The Marvellous Miss Take flips the typical morality of a heist game on its head. Players sneak across levels as 3 unique characters with differing playstyles to retrieve artifacts stolen from the protagonist by a greedy businessman. A vibrant, colorful art style and mouse-only controls also make The Marvellous Miss Take significantly more accessible than many titles in the stealth genre.

Normal Price: $19.99 USD
Discounted Price: $4.99 USD (75% off)
