Final Fantasy VII is the best-selling and most popular game in the Final Fantasy series. Sephiroth (pictured above) appeared first in Final Fantasy VII as the main antagonist, and has been recognized as one of the “best” villains in gaming.
Let’s shine the light of the Bible on this subject.

Safer∙Sephiroth’s form has six wings:

“Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.
And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.” (Isaiah 6:2-3)
Instead of praising God as does this scriptural parallel, Sephiroth blasphemes him (as you will see later).
Let’s look at some of Sephiroth’s abilities:
The Meteor spell he uses in FF VII that nearly destroys the Planet:

“And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.” (Revelation 20:9)
“Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven;” (Genesis 19:24)
“And Elijah answered and said unto them, If I be a man of God, let fire come down from heaven, and consume thee and thy fifty. And the fire of God came down from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty.” (2 Kings 1:12)
Sephiroth caused Geostigma, a disease which afflicts it’s victims with sores:

[pouring out God’s wrath] “And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain, And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds.” (Revelation 16:10-11)
Fire3, a massive fire spell:

“And there went out fire from the Lord, and devoured them, and they died before the Lord.” (Leviticus 10:2)
“Therefore have I poured out mine indignation upon them; I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath: their own way have I recompensed upon their heads, saith the Lord GOD.” (Ezekiel 22:31)
“Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about him.” (Psalm 50:3)
Ice3 is a powerful ice spell:

“He [God] casteth forth his ice like morsels: who can stand before his cold?” (Psalm 147:17)
“He [God] destroyed their vines with hail, and their sycomore trees with frost.” (Psalm 78:47)
“I smote you with blasting and with mildew and with hail in all the labours of your hands; yet ye turned not to me, saith the LORD.” (Haggai 2:17)
Bolt3 is a lightning spell::

[Talking to God]“Cast forth lightning, and scatter them: shoot out thine arrows, and destroy them.” (Psalm 144:6)
[God speaking] “Canst thou send lightnings, that they may go and say unto thee, Here we are?” (Job 38:35)
“The Lord also thundered in the heavens, and the Highest gave his voice; hail stones and coals of fire. Yea, he sent out his arrows, and scattered them; and he shot out lightnings, and discomfited them.” (Psalm 18:13-14)
Quake3 creates an earthquake:

“For thus saith the Lord of hosts; Yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land;” (Haggai 2:6)
“And they shall go into the holes of the rocks, and into the caves of the earth, for fear of the Lord, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth.” (Isaiah 2:19)
“The voice of the Lord shaketh the wilderness; the Lord shaketh the wilderness of Kadesh.” (Psalm 29:8)
“The mountains quake at him [God], and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at his presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein.
Who can stand before his indignation? and who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? his fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown down by him.” (Nahum 1:5-6)
Sephiroth’s Supernova attack is also his most famous one. It destroys planets, detonates the sun, and eventually burns the earth.
An abridged version:

Jupiter is destroyed:

The sun explodes and supernovas:

The sun then starts to destroy several planets:
Sephiroth:
The earth is engulfed and burned:

“But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.” (2 Peter 3:10)
“Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?” (2 Peter 3:11-12)
Sephiroth is known as Jenova’s “son:”
“Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:” (Isaiah 26:4)
“That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth.” (Psalm 83:18)
“The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God;” (Mark 1:1)
“He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” (John 3:18)
Look at how other languages translate Safer∙Sephiroth to see the true meaning of the name:
- Spanish: Salvador Sefirot – Saviour Sephiroth
- German: Retter Sephiroth – Saviour Sephiroth
“I, even I, am the Lord; and beside me there is no saviour.” (Isaiah 43:11)
“Yet I am the Lord thy God from the land of Egypt, and thou shalt know no god but me: for there is no saviour beside me.” (Hosea 13:4)
“For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:” (Philippians 3:20)
“But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.” (2 Peter 3:18)
Some quotes from Sephiroth:
- “Only I can ruin everything.“
“Therefore wait ye upon me, saith the Lord, until the day that I rise up to the prey: for my determination is to gather the nations, that I may assemble the kingdoms, to pour upon them mine indignation, even all my fierce anger: for all the earth shall be devoured with the fire of my jealousy.” (Zephaniah 3:8)
“And, behold, I [God], even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die.” (Genesis 6:17)
- “The planet has forsaken me…“
“And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:46)
“And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” (Mark 15:34)
“But now thus saith the Lord that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.” (Isaiah 43:1)
“But when Jesus heard it, he answered him, saying, Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole.” (Luke 8:50)
- “Melding with the Planet… I will cease to exist as I am now… Only to be reborn as a ‘God’ to rule over every soul.“
“Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the Lord hath wrought this? In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind.” (Job 12:9-10)
“O Lord our God, other lords beside thee have had dominion over us: but by thee only will we make mention of thy name. They are dead, they shall not live; they are deceased, they shall not rise: therefore hast thou visited and destroyed them, and made all their memory to perish. [Sephiroth’s statement “I will… never be a memory!” lines up with this verse]” (Isaiah 26:13-14)
- “Can you mimic my strength?“
[God speaking] “Hast thou an arm like God? or canst thou thunder with a voice like him?” (Job 40:9)
- “I am the ruler of the planet!“
- “I am the chosen one. I have been chosen to rule this planet.“
“I [God] know all the fowls of the mountains: and the wild beasts of the field are mine. If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fulness thereof.” (Psalm 50:11-12)
“And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lift up mine hand unto the Lord, the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth,” (Genesis 14:22)
“These shall make war with the Lamb [Jesus], and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.” (Revelation 17:14)
- “To the promised land.“
- “I will take you to the promised land!“
“And I [God] am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey [the promised land]; unto the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites.” (Exodus 3:8)
“Thus saith the Lord, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the Lord thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go.” (Isaiah 48:17)
- “All becomes one with me.“
“There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.” (Galatians 3:28)
“That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him:” (Ephesians 1:10)
- “You will live again as part of me.”
“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20)
“Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:” (Romans 6:8)
We can clearly see that Sephiroth is just as the title of this article suggests, “another Jesus.” However, Sephiroth is not simply another Jesus, but something far worse:
